They are not recorded in any official account.

They do not appear in the same place twice—at least, not in ways that can be confirmed. Yet descriptions remain consistent across encounters: three figures, dressed in traditional garments, seen in locations that should have long since been abandoned.

The Shrine Maidens are not tied to a single shrine, nor to any known region. They appear where something has already gone wrong—forgotten paths, broken structures, places where time and space feel unsettled.

Those who claim to have seen them rarely agree on details. One is said to smile too widely. Another watches without expression. The third stands closest, her presence felt before she is seen.

No one reports interaction. No one reports being followed.

Only that they were there.

The One Who Speaks
When she is present, some report hearing a voice—soft, measured, and close enough to feel directed, though no clear words are ever remembered. Those who hear it often leave soon after, unable to explain why.

The One Who Stares
She does not move. She does not react. She is simply there, watching. Those who notice her often describe the same detail later—that she had already been looking at them before they realized she was there.

The Giggler
The sound comes first—quiet at a distance, almost playful. It does not grow louder as it gets closer, only clearer. By the time it is understood for what it is, she is already nearby.

Within The Hollow Echo, the Shrine Maidens are considered recurring figures—unexplained, untracked, and unconnected to any single event. Their presence does not resolve anything. It only confirms that something else is already in place.

There are no records of where they come from.

Only where they have been seen.
