Adrian’s River Annex Map

Adrian’s River Annex Map is a worn paper utility map showing an older section of Sacramento’s infrastructure around River Annex. The sheet identifies River Annex itself along with Filter 7B, West Access, and a service corridor connecting portions of the old facility. Heavy fold lines cross the paper in several directions, while softened corners, edge wear, and surface smudging show that it had been carried, unfolded, studied, and folded again many times.

A hand-drawn circle marks River Annex, while the handwritten note “check route” appears near Filter 7B. Those markings show that Adrian was using the map to trace a specific path through the older infrastructure rather than carrying it as a general reference.

The map becomes important after Adrian’s official digital trail begins contradicting physical evidence. Transit records place him traveling east through a gate that was not operational, while a witness remembers him leaving in the opposite direction. His interest in River Annex gives Jonah a physical lead that does not depend on the altered or unreliable electronic record.

The paper format matters because older utility routes and access points are not always represented accurately in current city systems. Decades of redevelopment, agency consolidation, sealed corridors, and infrastructure changes have left some older routes poorly documented or effectively invisible in modern databases. Adrian’s map preserves a version of the system that still shows those older connections.

By the time Jonah begins reconstructing Adrian’s movements, the folded map helps establish that Adrian had already focused his attention on River Annex, Filter 7B, and the old access network before he disappeared.
