Mara Voss is the chief mechanic, salvage specialist, and contracts manager of Galactic Salvage Crew 99. Jax commands the Overdraft, but Mara is the reason its engines start, its pressure seals hold, and the crew’s jobs occasionally end with payment.
She understands the Overdraft as a collection of aging systems rather than a single machine. Its mismatched engines, overloaded power relays, patched pressure seals, and illegally modified components require constant attention. Mara rarely has the correct replacement part, forcing her to rebuild damaged systems from scrap and make repairs that would horrify a licensed shipyard.
Practical and levelheaded, Mara handles negotiations, evaluates salvage claims, and decides when a promising job is actually a poorly disguised death trap. She can be patient with damaged machinery but considerably less patient with Jax’s improvisation or Rin’s power consumption. Beneath her steady exterior, she carries the memory of a salvage operation that forced her to make an impossible decision—one that someone from her past has never forgiven.
