Jax Mercer is the pilot of the Overdraft and one of the founding members of Galactic Salvage Crew 99. Relaxed when everyone else is panicking and cynical when anyone mentions an easy payday, he has survived the frontier by trusting instinct, experience, and machinery that should have stopped working years ago.
Few pilots can handle the Overdraft’s mismatched engines and unpredictable controls. Jax understands the ship through its vibrations, warning buzzers, and mechanical complaints, pushing the former ore-hauler through debris fields, unstable atmospheres, and escape routes that more sensible captains would never attempt.
His laid-back manner conceals a military history he rarely discusses. Jax left the service carrying old regrets, damaged loyalties, and a refusal to abandon people simply because saving them is inconvenient. The rest of the crew knows pieces of what happened, but much of his past remains buried behind dry humor and carefully changed subjects.
The discovery of the Eden disk gives Jax something he distrusts more than any corporate contract: hope. As Kessler Dynamics closes in, he must keep the Overdraft flying long enough for the crew to discover whether Eden is real—and decide what they are willing to risk to reach it.
