The Reed Rest was not built as a bed for a guest. It was shaped from what the grove offered: reeds bent by hand, moss gathered from shaded roots, and leaves softened by spring air. It had no carved frame, no blanket, and no mark of ownership. It was temporary by design, the kind of resting place that could return to the forest once no longer needed.

For the soldier, that made it more important, not less. He had slept beside roads, under wagons, in ruined watch posts, and in the cold spaces between one memory and the next. Sleep had become another duty, shallow and guarded. The Reed Rest asked nothing of him except that he stop standing watch over a war that had already ended.

Its meaning lies in its humility. It is not a royal bed, a sacred shrine, or a crafted relic. It is proof that healing in the grove begins with ordinary mercy: dry ground, quiet air, and a place where the body can finally believe it is safe. Liora’s kindness is present in it, but not loudly. Like most things she gives, it feels almost accidental until the soldier realizes it saved him.
