The Null Zone Compass is a time-worn instrument built for a world that no longer obeys ordinary direction. Its needle does not follow magnetic pull, true north, or any fixed geography. Instead, it responds to ruptures in chronology — the silent wounds where timelines overlap, collapse, or fall out of sequence.

To anyone else, the compass appears unstable, even broken. Its needle trembles, stutters, and turns toward empty ground, abandoned structures, ruined districts, or stretches of land that seem to hold no value at all. But those places are never truly empty. They are null zones: dead pockets of reality where history has been scorched thin, memory loses cohesion, and the boundary between what happened, what was prevented, and what should never have existed begins to weaken.

For Kael, the compass is not just a tool. It is a warning device, a guide, and a burden. When it begins to move, it means something is wrong with time nearby. A fracture may be opening. A lost event may be resurfacing. A buried timeline may be trying to force its way back into the world. Following the compass often leads him to the places no one else would willingly enter — erased battlefields, collapsed futures, abandoned research sites, and the hollow remains of histories that were cut away but never fully died.

The relic carries an unsettling reputation because it does not merely locate danger. It pulls its bearer toward the places where reality is weakest, demanding confrontation rather than safety. In that way, the compass reflects Kael’s path exactly: it never offers comfort, only direction. It does not help him return to what was lost. It only leads him deeper into the damage.

Its presence suggests that the world’s fractures are not random. They can be tracked. They can be found. And if they can be found, then someone — or something — may have known how to make them.

As an artifact, The Null Zone Compass represents one of the most important truths in Kael’s journey: broken time leaves traces, and those traces always lead somewhere.
