The Girl in the Elevator Mirror

The Landing Mirror is fixed to the concrete wall between the sixth and fifth floors, beside the fire equipment where no one would normally give it much attention. Its frame is plain, its glass slightly worn, and its purpose should be simple: reflect the stairwell, the railing, and whoever is passing by.

But when Souta looks into it, the mirror does not show the stairs. It shows the elevator.

Inside the reflection, the elevator doors stand open beneath cold light, and the girl waits inside as if the mirror is not reflecting another place, but revealing where the danger has already spread. The stairwell was supposed to be the safe choice — a way around the elevator, a way back to ordinary rules. The mirror proves that the escape route has been reached too.

What makes the Landing Mirror unsettling is its normalcy. It remains bolted to the wall like any other building fixture, quiet and practical, waiting for the next person desperate enough to check whether the stairs still lead away.
