The Eden Disk

The Eden Disk is the artifact that sets Starbound Drifters in motion. Jax Mercer, Mara Voss, Rin Aoki, and Henry recover it from a hidden compartment behind the navigation console of a long-dead courier ship inside Fleet Reserve Sector Nine-One-Delta, a restricted military graveyard officially erased from civilian charts.

The disk is an obsolete military-spec data cartridge: thick, black, physically durable, and built to survive vacuum, radiation, and impact. Someone sealed it inside a foam-lined cavity where earlier scavengers would never think to look. Its contents are badly corrupted, but Rin is able to recover fragments of an old colonial route and a single name: Eden.

At first, Eden sounds like a frontier story—a legendary world with breathable air, clean water, and a self-sustaining ecosystem. But the disk’s recovery immediately wakes the graveyard’s dormant defense network and brings a Kessler Dynamics response ship to the crew’s position within minutes.

As Rin gradually uncovers more of its hidden data, the Eden Disk becomes proof that Viridia-9 was real: a legitimate colonial survey world deliberately removed from the map. For Galactic Salvage Crew 99, it is both a way out of debt and the reason Kessler decides they cannot be allowed to disappear quietly.
