Kuroha’s Paper Bird begins as a simple folded shape, small enough to rest in her palm and plain enough to look unremarkable at first glance. When the children of Asegawa stop her in the street and ask whether she is a witch, Kuroha does not argue the point for long. Instead, she reaches into her bag, produces the paper bird, and breathes on it once. The little bird stirs, lifts into the air, circles the children in a faint blue-glowing arc, and settles on the braided girl’s finger.

The bird is not presented as a grand spell or dangerous relic. It is one of Kuroha’s gentlest wonders: quick, quiet, and made for delight rather than display. It shows the side of her that understands children, earns their trust without forcing it, and treats small acts of magic as naturally as someone else might offer a sweet or a smile.

Its importance comes from what it reveals about Kuroha before the deeper trouble of Asegawa appears. She is a traveler, yes, and something more than ordinary, but she is not distant or cold. The paper bird becomes a first impression: a fragile little creature made from folded paper, carrying enough life to make children gasp and enough kindness to explain why they follow her down the street.
